Do Something: Trans & Non Binary Identity(ies) is an award-winning documentary created entirely by trans and non binary individuals that presents the lived realities of eight people navigating life with trans and/or non-binary identities. The film highlights the personal impacts of societal norms, micro- and macro-aggressions, and systemic challenges, while also offering insight into resilience, community, and the work needed to build safer, more affirming spaces.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Increase Cultural Competence and Sensitivity: Demonstrate increased understanding of the lived experiences of trans, non binary, and many more non cis individuals as presented in the documentary, and articulate at least three ways these insights can inform more affirming clinical practice.
- Identify and Address Systemic and Clinical Bias: Recognize and critically reflect on personal and systemic biases that impact therapeutic engagement with gender-diverse clients, and describe at least three strategies to mitigate these biases in clinical settings.
- Apply Trauma-Informed and Affirming Therapeutic Practices: Integrate trauma-informed and affirming approaches into therapy planning by identifying at least three concrete clinical interventions or modifications that enhance safety, trust, and validation for trans and non binary clients.
