Do Something: Identity(ies)
OUR MISSION
Do Something: Identity(ies) (DSI) advocates for social justice and the human rights of trans, non binary, and many more non cis people and communities by facilitating access to networks of life saving care and developing a wide range of platforms focused on education, training, and research.
OUR PROGRAM AREAS
Training
DSI develops trainings to promote awareness of the ways in which individuals and institutions, often unwittingly, engage in transphobic behaviors/language. Trainings take shape through interactive workshops with a variety of groups— parents, siblings, partners, professors, corporations, therapists, and non profits.
App
DSI is building and distributing an app to facilitate access to affirming care that includes a database of affirming, trained providers. In order for a trans, non binary and/or another non cis identity person to gain access to life saving procedures, medications, gender marker changes, name changes and more, a person is required undergo psychological assessment and receive a letter affirming who the person is.
Conferences
DSI has presented two conferences, one in May 2022 and one in May 2024. Once established with adequate funding, DSI plans to present 4 conferences/year that focus on and feature trans, non binary and more non cis identity(ies) experiences.
Resources
Producing new resources including books, articles, and documentaries.
Why DSI?
We are unique by only employing only people who are trans, non binary, and/or another non cis identity. Promoting a space with people who have shared identity(ies) significantly increases the likelihood of creating a trauma-informed environment that directly impacts our mental wellness and feelings of safety which can decrease negative psychological and physiological impacts. A space with people who have shared identities increases the likelihood of people practicing cultural humility which reduces impediments to care.
