Beyond “Just Communicate Better”: Identity, Power, and Nervous-System Safety

ABOUT

Communication is often framed as a skill deficit, but this framing ignores how identity, power, and nervous-system safety shape who can communicate, how, and at what cost.

This session explores how communication expectations disproportionately impact individuals navigating marginalization, including neurodivergent and trans, non binary and many more non cis people. Participants will examine how masking, power dynamics, and systemic inequities influence relational engagement and how commonly taught communication strategies can unintentionally reinforce harm.

Drawing from Growth-Promoting Conversations™ (GPC™), this workshop introduces practical approaches to communication that center dignity, consent, and regulation. Attendees will leave with tools to shift from performance-based communication toward more sustainable, identity-honoring connection.
